Who We Are

The Geelong Bonsai Club Incorporated

Our story began in late 1979 with Owen Griffin and four other enthusiasts. What started as a small gathering in an ambulance room has evolved into a registered body with a massive library and a dedicated trading table. We are a community of creators, focused on the planting guide for success and ensuring the art of bonsai survives for generations.

A Timeline

Decades of Designing With Nature

Our history is shaped by a love for nature and art, within a community of like-minded individuals.

1979
Owen Griffin, Joy Tucker, Dawn Lee, Peter Mueller, and Bob Knight form the club.
1980
Meetings begin in the Ambulance Room near St Mary’s.
1981
The first official Show is held at the TPI Ex-Servicemen’s Hall.
1984
The club is officially registered as the Geelong Bonsai Club Incorporated.
1992
Bob White begins an 11-year presidency, establishing the trading table and library.
Present Day
We continue to share our knowledge of Bonsai as a welcoming community.

Expertise in Bonsai Art & Cultivation
Our club brings together people with a wide range of experience in bonsai art and cultivation. Members meet regularly share knowledge, learn from one another and work on their trees in a supportive , hands on environment.
Bonsai Tools & Supplies
We stock tools, wire, pots and soil at an affordable price for a club members. The general public can access the sales room and stock up for the year ahead at our annual show.
Annual Show
Held each year, the show features a diverse display of bonsai created and cared for by our club members.
It offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate the beauty and skill involved in bonsai, learn more about the art form and connect with the long standing community of Geelong Bonsai Club.
Our sales area is well stocked by the club members and well known bonsai nurseries.
